Aliyev admits pre-planned aggression against Armenia – Foreign Ministry
The Armenian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday denounced Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s latest statements aimed at torpedoing the efforts of Armenia and international community to establish peace in the South Caucasus.
In an interview on Tuesday, Aliyev said the Artsakh Armenians " have to either take up Azerbaijani citizenship or find another place of residence.”
“With his statements, Ilham Aliyev demonstrates open contempt for various international partners, in whose presence and through whose mediation Azerbaijan has recognized the territorial integrity of Armenia and assumed clear obligations, including the delimitation of the borders between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan based on the Almaty Declaration, and the launch of an international mechanism for ensuring the rights and security guarantees of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“Moreover, by his statement the President of Azerbaijan openly acknowledges the pre-planned aggression against and occupation of the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia and also reveals his intention to subject the population of Nagorno-Karabakh to ethnic cleansing. The President of Azerbaijan, under whose rule the country has seen gross and flagrant institutional violations of human rights, is openly making ontological threats to the peaceful population of Nagorno-Karabakh living in their homeland,” it added.
