Armenian parliament speaker urges Russia to fulfill its commitments
Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan has denounced Azerbaijan’s establishment of a checkpoint on the Lachin Corridor as “totally unacceptable”.
“The installation of a checkpoint in the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan in the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent is totally unacceptable as it is a gross violation of Provision 6 of 9 November 2020 Trilateral statement,” he said in a tweet on Sunday.
“We call on Russia to fulfill its obligation by ensuring the withdrawal of Azerbaijani forces from entire security zone of Lachin Corridor & on UN member states having mandate for preservation of international security to take effective steps towards implementation of the ICJ Decision,” the speaker added.
On February 22, the ICJ ordered Azerbaijan to “take all measures at its disposal to ensure unimpeded movement of persons, vehicles and cargo along the Lachin corridor in both directions.”
