The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, has suspended hearings in the Armenia v. Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan v. Armenia cases pending a decision on the objections submitted by both sides against each other, the Office of Armenia’s Representative on International Legal Matters reported on Tuesday.

Earlier on April 21, Armenia’s Representative on International Legal Matters Yeghishe Kirakosyan submitted to the UN court the preliminary objections of Armenia with respect to the Memorial of Azerbaijan in the case concerning Application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Azerbaijan v. Armenia), providing substantiated justifications on the lack of jurisdiction of the court over most of the claims presented by Azerbaijan and their inadmissibility.

On February 22, the ICJ granted Armenia’s request for an interim measure, ordering the Azerbaijani government to ensure unimpeded movement of persons, vehicles and cargo along the Lachin corridor in both directions until a final ruling in the Armenia v. Azerbaijan case is rendered. Azerbaijan has not complied with the court order to date.
