Armenia submits letter to UN court over Lachin checkpoint
Armenia has sent a letter to the International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ of the UN, over Azerbaijan’s establishment of a checkpoint in the Lachin Corridor, the only road in and out of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), the Office of Armenia's Representative on International Legal Matters reported.
“On 25 April, the Republic of Armenia submitted a letter to the International Court of Justice within the framework of the case concerning the Application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Armenia v. Azerbaijan) with respect to the important developments resulting from the establishment by Azerbaijan of a checkpoint in the Lachin Corridor, stressing that the establishment of the checkpoint is yet another flagrant violation by Azerbaijan of the Order of the Court of 22 February indicating provisional measures against Azerbaijan,” it said in a statement.
Azerbaijani authorities on Sunday set up a checkpoint at the Hakari Bridge in the Lachin Corridor in violation of the November 2020 ceasefire agreement, which says that the corridor falls under the control of the Russian peacekeeping troops in Nagorno-Karabakh.
