Blinken expresses deep concern over Lachin checkpoint in call with Aliyev
United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed deep concern over Azerbaijan’s establishment of a checkpoint on the Lachin corridor in a phone call with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on April 30.
Azerbaijan set up a checkpoint at the entrance to the Lachin corridor, the only road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia, on April 23.
Blinken underscored the importance of “Azerbaijan-Armenia peace discussions and pledged continued U.S. support,” Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a statement.
“Secretary Blinken shared his belief that peace was possible. He also expressed the United States’ deep concern that Azerbaijan’s establishment of a checkpoint on the Lachin corridor undermines efforts to establish confidence in the peace process, and emphasized the importance of reopening the Lachin corridor to commercial and private vehicles as soon as possible,” reads the statement.
