Opposition MP calls for setup of special tribunal to probe 2020 war
MP Gegham Nazaryan of the opposition Hayastan bloc has called for the creation of a special tribunal to investigate the 2020 Artsakh war where his son was killed, as well as the developments preceding it.
The Armenian parliament on Tuesday debated a request to extend the mandate of the commission tasked with probing the causes and course of the war unleashed by Azerbaijan on September 27, 2020. The extension was sought by Andranik Kocharyan, the ruling Civil Contract party MP who heads the commission.
Addressing lawmakers, Nazaryan insisted the establishment of a tribunal was necessary to prevent renewed defeat and losses.
The MP also claimed “some are trying to use the grieving parents to give themselves an advantage.”
“I am asking all political forces to refrain from dragging the grieving parents of heroes into dirty games. This is the most important thing. I know that someday Andranik Kocharyan will announce that the commission is not enough and a special agency should be set up to investigates the issues more thoroughly," Nazaryan stressed.
