Armenian parliament OKs bill to criminalize moves against sovereignty
The Armenian National Assembly on Wednesday passed, among other things, a bill that would make it a crime to publicly call for the “renunciation of Armenia’s sovereignty”.
Under the amendments to the Criminal Code proposed by the Ministry of Justice, actions aimed at “limiting Armenia’s sovereignty through violence or threat of violence” would also be criminalized.
The new measure proposes a prison sentences of between 3 to 15 years for those convicted of such offenses.
Lawmakers also approved changes to Armenia’s Criminal and Judicial Codes, the laws on cinema, bankruptcy, fire safety, public service and preschool education.
The parliament voted to extend the mandate of the commission tasked with probing the causes and course of the 2020 Artsakh war.
