Sullivan welcomes 'progress' in Armenia-Azerbaijan talks
U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has welcomed the "progress" Armenia and Azerbaijan have made in talks after meeting with the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramo, on Wednesday.
“Good to host Ararat Mirzoyan & Jeyhun Bayramov together at the White House today,” he said in a tweet.
“We welcome the progress Armenia & Azerbaijan have made in talks & encourage continued dialogue. A sustainable & just agreement will be key to unlocking opportunities for both countries & the region,” Sullivan added.
Earlier, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry said that during the trilateral meeting Mirzoyan underscored that Azerbaijan’s withdrawal from sovereign Armenian territories and addressing the issue of the rights and security of the Nagorno-Karabakh people within a mechanism of internationally guaranteed dialogue were key to a “comprehensive settlement and long-term stability in the region.”
