'Immortal Regiment' march held in Yerevan
The "Immortal Regiment" held a march in the Armenian capital of Yerevan on 9 May, Victory Day commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
The march started from the area near Holy Cross Church in Yerevan’s Arabkir district. The participants of the civic action marched towards the Eternal Flame in the Victory Park.
The "Immortal Regiment" is a patriotic initiative that commemorates WWII soldiers in marches held across Russia and other countries in early May. During the marches, people carry photographs of their ancestors who participated in the Great Patriotic War.
Between 5,000 and 7,000 people were expected to attend today's march in Yerevan.
