Opposition MP: Artsakh is in hostage situation
The humanitarian crisis is worsening in Artsakh blocked by Azerbaijan for nearly five months now, Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan says.
"The situation has sharply deteriorated especially since April 23, after the establishment of an illegal Azerbaijani checkpoint in the corridor linking Armenia to Artsakh,” Abrahamyan, who represents the opposition Pativ Unem faction, wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
“The supplies of essential items to Artsakh have been severely limited. Azerbaijan is even hindering the activities of the Red Cross.
“Amid the disruption of gas supplies, a serious electricity crisis and fuel shortages, not only the economy is stagnant, but also problems that were difficult to foresee even 1.2 months ago have emerged.
“Artsakh is in a hostage status with all ensuring consequences. The regional players remain silent, while the Armenia government acts as if nothing had happened, with some of its members trying to brazenly justify their own behavior and criminal ignorance," the MP stated.
