Yerevan court to continue hearing motion for arrest of fallen soldier's mother on Friday
A court in Yerevan will continue hearing a motion for the arrest of Gayane Hakobyan, the mother of an Armenian soldier killed in the 2020 Artsakh war, on Friday afternoon.
The hearing starts at 1pm, lawyer Ruben Melikyan said.
The woman was detained on Wednesday on suspicion of and threatening and attempting to “kidnap” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s son, Ashot Pashinyan, who claims she tricked him into getting in her car after he ran into her and several other parents of fallen soldiers in Yerevan on Wednesday.
Pashinyan jumped out of the car at an intersection before being hit by another vehicle that carried several other parents, Armenia’s Investigative Committee said in a statement.
Gayane Hakobyan and the other parents strongly denied the kidnapping allegations. The woman remained in a Yerevan detention center as of Friday morning. Meanwhile, a large group of people gathered outside the facility to show support for her at night despite cold weather.
