Scuffle erupts in Armenian parliament
A scuffle broke out between the opposition and pro-government MPs in the Armenian National Assembly on Wednesday.
Tensions erupted after the speech of opposition Hayastan bloc MP Artur Sargsyan who accused Armen Danielyan, a nominee judge for the Court of Cassation’s Anti-Corruption Chamber, of illegally arresting him in November 2021.
“You didn't ensure my right to a speech because you didn't have the guts to arrest me by looking me in the eye," Sargsyan said.
After his statement, an altercation broke out between the opposition MP and Hovik Aghazaryan, a lawmaker representing the ruling Civil Contract party, which quickly escalated into a scuffle involving more MPs.
Speaker Alen Simonyan asked security guards to step in and stop the fight.
