Opposition MP slams pro-government colleague after parliament scuffle
MP Ishkhan Saghatelyan of the opposition Hayastan bloc denounced his pro-government colleague Hovik Aghazaryan over his rude remarks which prompted a scuffle in the Armenian parliament on Wednesday.
Aghazaryan, who represents the ruling Civil Contract party, bluntly told Hayastan MP Artur Sargsyan to take his seat after his statement in which the deputy accused Armen Danielyan, a nominee judge for the Court of Cassation’s Anti-Corruption Chamber, of illegally arresting him in November 2021.
A scuffle between the opposition and the pro-government MPs erupted in the parliament after Aghazaryan’s remarks. Speaker Alen Simonyan told security guards to step in and remove Sargsyan from the sessions hall.
“This is not a parliament, but a bazaar. After the deputy's speech, one of the hooligans rudely tells him to sit down,” Saghatelyan told reporters after the incident.
"This is who they [the parliament majority] really are. They are hooligans," he added.
