Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has publicly confirmed that a peace deal currently discussed by Baku and Yerevan would recognize Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) as part of Azerbaijan, opposition MP Hayk Mamijanyan said on Thursday.

Addressing the parliament at a plenary session, Mamijanyan, secretary of the Pativ Unem faction, rejected the premier’s latest claims justifying his stance on the conflict, calling for popular resistance against his plans to surrender Artsakh.

"Pashinyan has only two options left: he either has to sign the document he is negotiating, i.e. the death sentence of Armenia, or to tender his resignation," said the oppositionist.

Mamijanyan stated over 90% of the Armenian population rejects Artsakh’s incorporation into Azerbaijan.

He questioned the legitimacy of Pashinyan’s government and claimed the premier’s public approval rating was low.

“Nikol Pashinyan is deceiving us when he says that the exercise of [Artsakh’s] right of self-determination was out of the question after the war. The Russian president, the U.S. ambassador to Armenia, the German chancellor and others talked about the right to self-determination, except for Nikol Pashinyan, after the war,” he stated.

“Pashinyan is lying when he says that he will preserve Armenia’s territory of 29,800 square kilometers, because it is impossible to suppress the enemy’s appetite.

"From now on, there are no political parties or personal ambitions, there are only those who are surrendering Artsakh and in a worst-case scenario there will be a group of people who fail to stop it. I do not plan to be part of either the first or the second group,” the deputy stressed.
