Criminal case against Armenian fallen soldier’s mother goes to court
The criminal case against Gayane Hakobyan, the mother of fallen soldier Zhora Martirosyan, has been sent to a Yerevan court, her lawyers said on Monday.
The Shengavit District Court of General Jurisdiction in Yerevan approved the woman’s pre-trial detention for one month on 20 May after she was charged with attempting to “kidnap” Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s son, Ashot Pashinyan. The decision sparked anti-government protests in the Armenian capital.
"According to our knowledge, the case has today been sent to the Yerevan Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction,” lawyer Hovsep Sargsyan told reporters, adding the presiding judge has not yet been named.
He noted that the preliminary probe into the case lasted only a few days, completing on May 25.
"The case materials have been provided to the defense. The court has now taken over the case" the lawyer said.
