Expert insists on ouster of Armenia's 'pro-Turkish' leaders
Turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan, an assistant professor at Yerevan State University, has called for strong efforts to remove Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's government which has a “pro-Turkish” stance.
In a social media post on Monday, the expert said Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s election runoff win was “entirely predictable”.
Erdogan won Sunday’s runoff with 52.14% of the vote, preliminary official results announced by Turkey’s Supreme Election Council (YSK) showed. Opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu received 47.86%.
“Regardless of the [election] outcome, Turkey's policy to wipe Armenia off the map will not change,” Geghamyan wrote on Facebook, brushing off the opposing claims.
“Moreover, in the medium and long term, Erdogan's stay in power may cause further crisis for the Turkish state, which could open a brief window of opportunity for us.
“Now all our efforts must be directed towards the removal of Armenia’s de facto pro-Turkish government, otherwise we will not be able to seize any window of opportunity,” he stated.
