Opposition MP: Azeri president threatens fresh aggression against Armenia amid 'peace' talks
MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction has reacted to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s latest statements on a peace deal with Armenia.
“The Azerbaijani president has threatened the Armenian people with a new aggression as part of the “peace” talks,” the deputy wrote on Facebook on Monday.
He claims Aliyev’s demands for the resignation of all Artsakh officials and the disbandment of its Defense Army are part of Baku’s renewed efforts towards the Azerbaijanization of Artsakh.
“Azerbaijan’s aggressive rhetoric stems from the Armenian leadership’s readiness to recognize Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan, which has legitimized the setup of an Azerbaijani checkpoint on the corridor linking Armenia to Artsakh. A threat for a new adventure has now emerged amid the Artsakh people’s resistance,” Abrahamyan stated.
“While Azerbaijan is setting the stage for attacks on the military infrastructures of Artsakh under the guise of an "anti-terrorism operation”, Pashinian's government is confirming its plans to surrender Artsakh [to Azerbaijan] on every platform. Pashinian's actions and statements are paving the way for fresh Azerbaijani aggression,” he added.
