Yerevan Opera Theater to host premiere of 'MookOpera' on June 1
The Armenian National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet will host the premiere of Krist Manaryan's "MookOpera", a children's play in two acts.
The performance is a gift from the Yerevan Opera Theater, its creators and actors to children for Children's Day.
"MookOpera" is the first children's opera made in Armenia in the post-Soviet period. The performance will be a real treat for young spectators, full of wonderful melodies, fascinating plot, colorful and luxurious costumes.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Krist Manaryan, who is the author of its libretto and the music, said that the acting director of the Yerevan Opera Theater, Karen Durgaryan, offered him to write a children's opera and he gladly agreed.
The opera is about a little mouse who celebrates his birthday. Mama Mouse wants to give a present to the mouse. There is almost no food in the kitchen, so she goes to get some millet to grind flour and bake a cake. But on the way she falls into the clutches of an owl. Friends come to the mouse’s rescue. All ends well, even the cat decides not to eat the mouse that day because it is his birthday.
"Mama Mouse doesn't know what to do, but she has to work a miracle. After all, she is a parent and parenthood, above all, means self-sacrifice," Manaryan said.
