Armenian MP deplores U.S. response to Aliyev's threats
MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction has condemned Washington’s response to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s latest threats against the Armenians of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
Earlier on Sunday, Aliyev told the Artsakh Armenians to dissolve their government and unconditionally accept Azerbaijani rule, threatening to take military action against Artsakh otherwise. He expressed readiness to grant “amnesty” to Artsakh’s leaders if they resign and “surrender” to Azerbaijan.
“We recently expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Pashinyan’s commitment to peace, and we welcome President Aliyev’s recent remarks on consideration of amnesty,” U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement issued late on Tuesday.
“Obviously, Pashinyan’s regime seeks to surrender Artsakh to Azerbaijan and put the Artsakh settlement process in a tight spot, but Washington’s disregard of increasing Azerbaijani aggression and its positive response to the veiled blackmail from Baku is absolutely unacceptable and fraught with serious consequences," Abrahamyan said in a social media post on Thursday.
