Yerevan airport customs staff foils drug smuggling attempt
Customs officers at Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport have thwarted an attempt to smuggle methamphetamine to Australia.
In a statement on Wednesday, the State Revenue Committee (SRC) said its officers checked a parcel that was to be sent from Armenia to Australia by an international courier and found two books with their covers filled with 1.5 kg of methamphetamine.
The sender is said to be an Iranian national, who has been detained and taken to the Armenian Investigative Committee.
A criminal case has been launched into drug smuggling.
Efforts are underway to identify all the persons involved in the crime.
