Yerevan court OKs opposition politician's arrest
The Anti-Corruption Court in Yerevan on Friday ordered the arrest of opposition politician Armen Ashotyan for two months, his lawyer Tigran Atanesyan announced.
Ashotyan, a former education minister and deputy chair of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), was detained by the Investigative Committee on Thursday morning.
He is charged with abuse of power and money laundering during his chairmanship of the Board of Trustees of Yerevan’s Mkhitar Heratsi Medical University. Ashotyan strongly denies the charges as “politically motivated”.
