Armenian opposition MP reacts to incident near Lachin Corridor
MP Gegham Manukyan of the opposition Hayastan faction has deplored the Russian peacekeepers’ actions following the incident near the Lachin Corridor on Thursday.
Armenian border guards deployed nearby opened fire to stop a group of Azerbaijani servicemen from advancing into Armenian territory and installing an Azerbaijani flag there.
A video of the incident shows that the Azerbaijani troops were escorted by Russian soldiers as they crossed a bridge over the Hakari River in the Lachin Corridor to place the flag.
Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergei Kopyrkin was summoned to Armenia’s Foreign Ministry over the incident.
“The Azerbaijanis tried to hoist a flag, but it was stopped due to Armenian border guards’ efforts,” Manukyan told 24TV in an interview on Friday.
“Of course, the activities of the Russian peacekeepers are reprehensible,” he added.
