Michael Goorjian's film wins award at Geneva International Oriental Film Festival
“Amerikatsi” (American), a state-financed feature film by San Francisco-based Armenian director Michael Goorjian, has picked up the SILVER FIFOG 2023 award at the Feature Film Competition of the Geneva International Oriental Film Festival.
The screening was part of a state jubilee program commemorating the 100th anniversary of Armenian cinema, and the festival celebrated this milestone as a special "Armenian Day" held on June 17, the National Cinema Center of Armenia reported.
Michael Goorjian’s film tells the touching story of Charlie, who returns to Soviet Armenia to reconnect with his homeland. It explores themes of unconditional love, even in the face of prison bars, and embodies the enduring qualities of patience and hope.
The film stars Hovik Keuchkerian, Mikhail Trukhin, Nelli Uvarova and Jean-Pierre Nshanyan.
