Azerbaijan's disregard for ICJ ruling has caused humanitarian crisis in Artsakh, Pashinyan warns
Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor, the only road in or out of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), continues despite the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling ordering the country to reopen the road, Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday.
Earlier on February 22, the UN court ordered Azerbaijan to "take all measures at its disposal to ensure the unimpeded movement of persons, vehicles and cargo along the Lachin Corridor in both directions."
“The court stated that the ruling was binding for Azerbaijan. But the court’s decision is not implemented, neither people nor vehicles or cargo are moving along the Lachin Corridor. Moreover, even the passage of Red Cross vehicles has been banned,” the Armenian premier told a cabinet meeting.
“These are important facts which counter Azerbaijan’s claims that the forces and countries speaking about the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and the Lachin Corridor are allegedly interfering in its internal affairs. The non-compliance with the ICJ ruling and its enforcement is a matter of the international agenda and we must approach this issue with this logic,” Pashinyan said, stressing the non-implementation of the court decision has caused a humanitarian crisis in Artsakh.
