Armenia must be ready for Azeri attack 'at any moment', says parliament speaker
Armenia must ready for a possible Azerbaijan attack “at any moment”, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan said on Monday.
“Making predictions is an ungrateful task,” he told reporters when asked whether the latest Azerbaijani provocations on the border with Armenia could escalate into large-scale hostilities.
“Of course we must always be ready that an attack could take place at any moment, and we are acting within this very logic. The actions and reforms in the military are part of it, regardless whether or not there would be provocations,” the speaker said.
Simonyan believes that further progress could be made at the fresh talks between the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers to start in Washington on Tuesday.
"Negotiations are going on quite intensively, proposals and discussions are yielding results. Some progress has been achieved at this point,” he stated.
