MP slams Armenian government's peace agenda amid Azeri military build-ups
Opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan blasted the peace agenda prompted by the Armenian authorities amid Azerbaijan's intense military build-ups.
The deputy states that after the 2020 Artsakh war Azerbaijan has doubled the number of its special forces, is upgrading its military units in line with the NATO standards and introducing new combat standards.
According to various open sources, between 18,000 and 20,000 soldiers have been retrained in Azerbaijan as part of the military reforms and trainings of commando units carried out with Turkey’s support.
“A number of military personnel are undergoing training at military institutions in Azerbaijan and other countries,” Abrahamyan, secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, wrote on Facebook on Monday.
“While the Armenian leaders are promoting false peacemaking narratives and insisting on the benefits of close relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan on a daily basis, the Azerbaijani president claims that it’s force that matters in international relations, rather than international law, and launches military reforms, dramatically increasing its army imports. Azerbaijan is taking a hardline policy in response to the defeatism of the Armenian authorities,” the MP stated.
