Protest against Artsakh blockade held outside UN Office in Yerevan
Members and supporters of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) held a protest outside the UN Office in Yerevan on Wednesday morning, demanding stronger action to end Azerbaijan’s seven-month blockade of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
The protest came after 24-hour sit-ins organized by the ARF Armenia Supreme Body outside the U.S., Russian, French Embassies and the EU Delegation office in Yerevan.
Protesters urged the UN to abandon double standards on Artsakh, go beyond mere statements and take practical steps to pressure Azerbaijan to unblock the Lachin Corridor, the sole road connecting Artsakh to Armenia.
“The ruling regime in Armenia has no mandate to represent the interests of the Armenian people. We must remain resolute in our fight for dignity, democratic values and human rights,” Aspram Krpeyan, an MP from the opposition Hayastan bloc, announced at the protest.
“The realization of Artsakh Armenians’ right to self-determination and Armenia’s territorial integrity are not a bargaining chip,” she stressed.
Her comments came after four Armenian soldiers were killed in an Azerbaijani attack on Artsakh army positions last night.
The deputy urged international efforts to stop Azerbaijan's policy of ethnic cleansing against the indigenous Artsakh Armenians.
