Further progress reported in Armenia, Azerbaijan talks
The Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers have made further progress toward a peace agreement during the latest U.S.-mediated talks, but still disagree on some key issues, the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov held bilateral negotiations at the George Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, Virginia, on June 27-29. While in Washington they met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
“The Ministers and their teams continued progress on the draft bilateral “Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations”. They reached an agreement on additional articles and advanced mutual understanding of the draft agreement, meanwhile acknowledging that the positions on some key issues require further work,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“Both Ministers expressed their appreciation to the U.S. side for hosting negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and their commitment to continue their negotiations,” it added.
