Kylian Mbappe calls for calm as riots continue across France
France captain Kylian Mbappe says the "violence must stop" as protests grip the country following the death of a teenager shot by police, the BBC reports.
France has seen nights of unrest after Nahel M, 17, was killed as he drove away from a traffic stop on Tuesday.
"Violence solves nothing, especially when it inevitably turns against those who are expressing it," Mbappe posted on his Instagram story.
The 24-year-old called for "peaceful and constructive" protests.
Gérald Darmanin, the interior minister, says tonight has been far calmer than Thursday despite there being at least 471 arrests so far.
He earlier said the government had deployed 45,000 police officers overnight to quell any further unrest.
Despite this, there are reports of widespread chaos in cities across France, with buildings and vehicles torched and stores looted.
The government also called on regional authorities to shut down overnight bus and tram services nationwide.
