Opposition MP joins protest in support of Armen Ashotyan
MP Tigran Abrahamyan on Tuesday joined a protest outside the Prosecutor General’s Office in Yerevan demanding the release of opposition politician Armen Ashotyan, who was arrested on 16 June.
“In parallel with Armen Ashotyan’s arrest, important processes are also taking place around us," Abrahamyan, secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, told reporters at the protest.
He recalled that on the day of Ashotyan's detention Azerbaijan imposed a total blockade on Artsakh, blocking the supplies of basic goods to the country.
"Artsakh has been under blockade for 205 days now, but during that period Russian peacekeepers and ICRC were able to deliver food to Artsakh in a certain quantity. Meanwhile, the Armenian authorities launched a witch-hunt against military and political figures and just conscious people who directed their efforts against the government's anti-Armenian policy," Abrahamyan stated.
The deputy stressed all those serving the current Armenian leaders “are helping them surrender Artsakh and Armenia” to Azerbaijan. “The law enforcement agencies fabricating criminal cases, including the National Security Service, police, Prosecutor's office and judicial system, are equally responsible for the treacherous steps of the authorities,” he said.
“Ashotyan is a warrior politician and has proved it throughout his activity. All these people have gathered here to say that they are ready to continue his fight. Freedom to Armen Ashotyan!” Abrahamyan added.
