Armenia recorded 13 measles cases in one week, minister says
A total of 13 measles cases were confirmed in Armenia over the past week, Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan told reporters after a cabinet meeting on Thursday, highlighting active vaccination efforts.
"Massive vaccination of healthcare workers are underway, since they are the primary target, and, unfortunately, also virus carriers after contact with measles patients. We believe that as a result of these vaccinations no new cases should be registered in 1-2 months," Avanesyan noted, adding the health authorities continue to record imported measles cases.
“There are countries which have been hit by large [measles] outbreaks, thus we cannot avoid recurrent imported cases in Armenia,” she added.
