Serzh Sargsyan brushes aside Pashinyan's war claims
Armenia’s third President Serzh Sargsyan has rejected Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statements on the 2020 Artsakh war as “defamation”.
“Slandering others to save your own skin is simply immoral,” Sargsyan told reporters on Friday.
Testifying before a parliament commission probing the 44-day war twice in June, Pashinyan again defended his handling of the Artsakh war, blaming Armenia’s top military brass and former leaders for its outcome. He claimed the former leaders had mishandled Artsakh peace talks.
“Psychologists say that liars eventually come to believe their own lies. The good thing is they also say that it is the last phase of lying. I hope that we are in the last stage," the ex-president said, also questioning Pashinyan’s management skills.
Sargsyan assured that “internal political processes” were expected in Armenia.
