Armenia, Azerbaijan narrowed number of unresolved issues, U.S. State Dept says
Armenia and Azerbaijan have narrowed the number of unresolved issues in their latest Washington-hosted talks and are close to signing a peace agreement, U.S. Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller said on Wednesday, without unveiling any timeframes for it.
He was asked to explain the U.S. statements following the Armenia-Azerbaijan talks that a peace deal between the two countries “is within reach”.
“I will say what the – we have meant when we say it’s within reach is that they have made significant progress on a number of issues. Even in the last meeting, they narrowed the number of issues that remain unresolved. And so we think with a dwindling number of issues to resolve, the agreement is within reach, but that involves – that of course would involve both parties being willing to compromise,” Miller told a press briefing.
The spokesman also said no new meeting between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan has been scheduled as of yet.
