Construction at Margara border checkpoint in full swing, SRC chief says
The construction work at the Margara customs checkpoint on Armenia’s border with Turkey is in full swing, Chairman of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) Rustam Badasyan told reporters on Thursday.
Armenia and Turkey agreed to open their shared border for citizens of third countries and diplomatic passport holders earlier this year. The border reopening was scheduled for June, but the process has seen delays.
Badasyan did not unveil new timeframes for the opening of the border checkpoint.
Asked whether or not the border will be opened for citizens of third countries and diplomatic passport holders after the completion of the construction, Badasyan said: “The question is beyond the jurisdiction of the State Revenue Committee. Our focus is to ensure the necessary conditions for effective customs control at the border crossing point, and that’s what we are doing.”
