Covid cases on the rise in Armenia
The number of new Covid-19 cases reported worldwide rose by 80 percent in the last month, the World Health Organization said on August 11.
The WHO designated the Omicron subvariant EG.5 as a "variant of interest" following a steady rise in its prevalence on August 9.
Panorama.am reached out to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention to find out the Covid situation in Armenia.
Epidemiologist Nerses Grigoryan told Panorama.am on Tuesday that 27 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Armenia over the last 14 days, up by 8 cases from the previous two weeks.
Currently, 15 Covid patients are hospitalized, he said, adding no deaths have been recorded.
"Overall, the situation is stable. Coronavirus is now classified among acute respiratory infections," the doctor said.
"At the moment, a number of Omicron subvariants are circulating worldwide, but none of them are of concern," he emphasized.
A total of 446,614 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Armenia since the decease outbreak in March 2020.
