Artsakh denies reports of pregnant woman's death
Artsakh’s health authorities have not confirmed the media reports that a pregnant woman has died in the village of Haterk.
"This is not a new incident. It happened in Haterk a month ago,” Artsakh Health Ministry spokeswoman Angelina Isakhanyan told Panoarama.am on Wednesday, adding the woman suffered miscarriage at the time.
In a statement on Tuesday, Armenian Ombudsperson Anahit Manasyan warned that the eight-month blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan has resulted in the gross violation of the fundamental rights of Artsakh Armenians.
“In the absence of sufficient food, there has been an increase in the number of premature births in Nagorno-Karabakh. A case of death of an unborn child was also registered in Haterk village of the Martakert region. The pregnant woman could not reach the hospital on time because of fuel shortage for emergency vehicles,” she said.
