Opposition MP reacts to Pashinyan's Syunik trip
MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction reacted to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s latest two-day trip to Syunik Province, saying it was aimed at “breaking the stereotypes and his inner fears.”
In a social media post on Monday, the deputy stated that the whole law enforcement system had been preparing Pashinyan's visit for several days, so that local officials “accompanied Pashinyan, asked him questions and even smiled at him, ruling out any awkward moments.”
“However, street repairs and ribbon-cutting at the opening of courtyard playgrounds could no way overshadow the security concerns, as best evidenced by the shooting targeting the Kapan airport,” Abrahamyan said, referring to the latest incident in which an unidentified person fired shots from the territory of Azerbaijan at the airport in the southeastern Syunik town.
“No matter how much the pro-government propaganda machine attempts to present the reality as part of the "cheerful Syunik" concept, it won’t help resolve the security problems in Syunik,” the MP stressed.
He highlighted that the road bypassing the Goris-Shurnukh-Kapan highway controlled by Azerbaijan did not function properly and questioned the security of flights from and to the Kapan airport given the close proximity of Azerbaijani combat outposts.
