Hayk Marutyan: Authorities and parliamentary opposition playing 'political ping-pong'
The Armenian authorities and the parliamentary opposition are playing “political ping-pong”, keeping the public discourse at a primitive level, Hayk Marutyan, a candidate for Yerevan mayor, said at a fundraiser for his National Progress party on Thursday.
Presenting his team's main goal and principles in the upcoming municipal elections, Marutyan, a former mayor of the Armenian capital who was removed from office in December 2021, noted that there were two reasons why he decided to join the election race.
"The first one is the multiple problems in the city. During our three-year administration, we created systems that should be functional for many years. After my unjustified impeachment, I regret that these reforms have slowed down, while many processes have started to go backwards," Marutyan said.
According to him, the second reason for his participation in the elections is the domestic political situation.
Marutyan noted that excited by the prospect of change after the 2018 revolution, the Armenian public was expecting major reforms.
