French FM condemns Baku's 'immoral' tactics in Nagorno-Karabakh
France will help create conditions for a just and lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna said on Monday.
"France will mobilize its efforts to help create conditions for a just and lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, delimit the borders between the two countries and offer the people of Nagorno-Karabakh the opportunity to live there with respect for their rights, culture and history,” she told French ambassadors to countries around the world.
“The strategy of choking aimed at a mass exodus of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh is illegal, as confirmed by the International Court of Justice. It is also immoral," the foreign minister stressed.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron pledged stronger international pressure on Azerbaijan to end its months-long blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh.
"I will have an opportunity to speak this week with [Armenian] Prime Minister Pashinyan and [Azerbaijani] President Ilham Aliyev,” Macron told the French diplomats.
“We will demand full respect for the Lachin humanitarian corridor and we will again launch a diplomatic initiative internationally to step up pressure on this issue,” he said.
