Hayakve ballot initiative hands over 58,000 signatures to CEC
The Hayakve ballot initiative handed over lists with more than 58,000 signatures to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Armenia on Thursday.
The group started in early July collecting signatures in support of its demands to make Artsakh’s recognition as part of Azerbaijan and the renunciation of the Armenian Genocide recognition campaign crimes punishable by between 10 and 15 years in jail.
The group had to collect at least 50,000 signatures to push the amendments to Armenia’s Criminal Code through the parliament.
“We will follow up on these signatures. In addition, we call on all citizens to stand up for their signatures. We are fighting against a monstrous enemy, and we have a chance to win it if we stand together,” the coordinator of the legislative initiative, Avetik Chalabyan, told reporters.
The CEC has one month to check the authenticity of the signatures using a special program.
