Protesters in Yerevan warn against Artsakh's surrender to Azerbaijan
A group of women held a protest outside the central government offices in Yerevan on Thursday, warning the Armenian leadership against surrendering Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to Azerbaijan and dividing the Armenian society.
The protesters, all members of a pro-Artsakh initiative called “Babon Ter A", held posters reading “You have no mandate to surrender Artsakh!”, “You have no mandate to divide the nation!”, “You have no mandate to change the Independence Declaration!”.
“We reaffirm Armenia’s commitment enshrined in the Declaration of Independence to protect Artsakh's right to self-determination. We note that the negotiations conducted by the current authorities and the ensuing conspiratorial plot run againt the interests of Armenia or Artsakh, so we have gathered here to raise our voice,” one of the protesters, Naira Margaryan, told reporters.
She claims Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s team has failed to deliver on its election promises and does not represent its voters.
“We are here to say that the current authorities do not have the right to surrender Artsakh. Nor do they have a mandate to distort history, destroy the army, demoralize us and leave our starving compatriots alone in the face of the enemy,” the woman said.
