Armenian MP urges Russia to step up efforts in South Caucasus
Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan calls on Russia to step up its involvement in the South Caucasus to prevent “unpredictable” developments there.
In a social media post on Monday, the deputy said the Russian and Turkish leaders are likely to discuss, among other things, the situation in blockaded Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and its possible settlement at their meeting on Monday.
“After the 44-day war, Turkey has completely intruded into the Artsakh settlement process and is trying to maximize its influence, which undoubtedly runs against our interests,” wrote Abrahamyan, the secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction.
“Russia is mainly focused on the war in Ukraine, but it has to intensify its efforts in the South Caucasus as well, otherwise events may take an unexpected turn for it.
"Direct or indirect blows to Russia in Artsakh will force Moscow to resort to strong counteraction," the MP added.
