Armenian, German FMs discuss regional security
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Monday had a telephone conversation with his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock to discuss stability and security in the region, the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.
"Referring to the actions of the armed forces of Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia on 1 September, Minister Mirzoyan emphasised that it was another manifestation of Azerbaijan's continuous aggressive behavior. Minister Mirzoyan added that with its actions Azerbaijan is trying to destabilise the situation in the South Caucasus, which should be condemned by the international community," the ministry said in its readout of the phone call.
"Parallel to this, the daily worsening humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh and its consequences for the population of Nagorno-Karabakh, especially for vulnerable groups, and the urgency of overcoming the crisis were emphasised on both sides. Minister Mirzoyan reiterated Armenia’s position regarding the lifting of the blockade of the Lachin corridor in accordance with the orders of the International Court of Justice and emphasised the need for international actors, including the EU, to take clear steps in that direction.
"Highly appreciating the targeted appeals made by the partners so far, Minister Mirzoyan emphasised that, unfortunately, they are not enough to register a positive change on the ground, to lift the factual blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh and to return Azerbaijan to a constructive track," reads the statement.
They also discussed possible steps to advance the bilateral cooperation agenda between Armenia and Germany.
