Azerbaijan carried out military fortifications unnoticed, says Armenian MP
Azerbaijan equipped its border positions without being noticed while carrying out infrastructure works, Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan says.
In a social media post on Wednesday, he highlighted that the September 2022 offensive by Azerbaijan was unpredictable for the Armenian authorities and the advance of Azeri troops had not been detected before the attack.
“As a result of the hostilities, Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity were violated. According to official figures, 225 people were killed, while Azerbaijani troops remain in the seized Armenian territories,” said Abrahamyan, secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction.
He claimed it remained unclear whether Azerbaijan’s ongoing massive military movement along the border with Armenia was a show of force, threat or preparation for an offensive.
The MP also called out the military leadership for poor risk management and inadequate countermeasures, pointing to Armenia’s “big territorial losses and casualties” over the past five years.
