EPP discussed Lachin corridor blockade, demanded Armen Ashotyan's release
The Political Assembly of the European People's Party (EPP) discussed, among other things, Azerbaijan’s inhumane blockade of the Lachin corridor, the sole road linking Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) to Armenia, and demanded opposition politician Armen Ashotyan’s release at its meeting in Brussels on 4-5 September.
“The Political Assembly also discussed the current developments with the inhumane practices of Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh such as blocking the Lachin corridor, and demanded the release of all political prisoners, especially of the vice president of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Armen Ashotyan,” the EPP said in a statement following the meeting.
The statement was shared by opposition Pativ Unem faction MP Hayk Mamijanyan who attended the meeting.
Armen Ashotyan was arrested on 16 June on charges of abuse of power and money laundering strongly denied by him as politically motivated.
