France's Macron to reportedly visit Yerevan, Baku soon
French President Emmanuel Macron is likely to visit Armenia next weekend for a new statement on the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Alpha News reported on Wednesday, citing its source.
The visit is scheduled for September 9-10.
The French leader is expected to visit Baku after the Yerevan trip.
Emmanuel Macron came to Armenia only once within the framework of the 17th Francophonie Summit held in Yerevan in October 2018, along with leaders of more than two dozen countries. However, this visit had no significant impact on Armenian-French diplomatic relations.
After becoming President of France in 2017 and being re-elected in 2021, Emmanuel Macron has not been in Armenia on an official or state visit, unlike former French presidents. Jacques Chirac arrived in Armenia on a state visit in 2006, Nicolas Sarkozy – in 2011, and François Hollande – in 2014.
Hollande visited Yerevan for the second time in 2015 to participate in the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
During meetings with the Armenian community after the 44-day war in 2020, the French leader has repeatedly stated that he will come to Armenia when there is a shift in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and France has something new to say.
