Ex-FM says Pashinyan made two 'fatal mistakes'
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has made two “fatal mistakes” in his policy on Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), former Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian claims.
Speaking at a debate in Yerevan via a video link on Thursday, the ex-minister said Pashinyan made a deep mistake when he publicly recognized Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan and instead insisted on security guarantees for the Artsakh Armenians.
“It’s simply unrealistic. It will be very difficult for Pashinyan to implement this, because he has no moral, legal or political right to do so,” Oskanian said, stressing that 90 percent of the Armenian population opposes Artsakh’s surrender to Azerbaijan.
The former minister argued that Pashinyan’s policy runs counter to a 1992 decision of Armenia’s Supreme Council which bans any document that would make Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan.
Oskanian also criticized the premier for separating the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization talks from the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
“He must immediately correct these mistakes to avoid a new war,” Oskanian stated.
