Oppositionist believes Armenia's ruling party will lose Yerevan elections
Mane Tandilyan, the leader of the opposition Country of Living party running in Yerevan elections, is confident that the ruling Civil Contract party will lose the upcoming municipal elections.
In a social media post on Monday, Tandilyan accused the ruling team of systematically abusing the administrative resources to facilitate its victory in the elections, as well as campaigning against the opposition candidates.
“Aware of its imminent defeat, the authorities have resorted to extremely unlawful conduct. Abusing the administrative resources since the start of the election campaign, they are forcing employees of not only the institutions under the Municipality, but also other government agencies to attend meetings [with Civil Contract's mayoral candidate Tigran Avinyan],” she charged.
Also, the opposition candidate accused the state-run media, including the Public TV, of disregarding the Electoral Code.
Yerevan residents will elect a new municipal council that will in turn appoint a new mayor of the Armenian capital on September 17. Thirteen parties and one bloc are vying for the City Council seats.
