Political analyst Edgar Elbakyan claims Russia has no long-term strategy for the South Caucasus region.

“As a successor of the continental empire, Russia has only inertia that it is necessary to have a military presence there. This is a dogma which is never questioned," he told a roundtable discussion in Yerevan on Tuesday.

Political scientist Hrant Mikayelyan, in turn, dismissed the claims of ongoing peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stating Armenia will have to sign a new “capitulation”.

“There is no peace process. First of all, there is no more peace, we are not moving towards peace and even if a peace treaty is signed, there will be no peace,” he stated.

“Accordingly, a process of Armenia’s final military and diplomatic destruction is underway. The only question is who will broker Armenia's next capitulation – Russia or the West. There is a dispute about it. Ultimately, in this process Armenia is the party that has lost, is losing and will continue to lose," Mikayelyan pointed out.
