No response from Baku to Yerevan's peace proposals yet, MP says
Azerbaijan has not yet responded to Armenia’s latest proposals regarding a bilateral peace treaty, Sargis Khandanyan, an MP from the ruling Civil Contract party who chairs the parliament foreign affairs committee, told reporters on Wednesday.
“According to my information, Azerbaijan hasn’t yet responded to the proposals,” Khandanyan said.
Earlier in August, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Armenia had submitted new peace proposals to Azerbaijan, but did not disclose them.
Separately, the MP insisted on the immediate reopening of the Lachin corridor to improve the dire humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) and protect the security of the Artsakh Armenians.
He refrained from commenting on the opening of the Azerbaijani-held Aghdam supply route to Artsakh.
"It is for the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities and people to decide. I don't think that Armenia should interfere,” the MP said.
He denounced the massive Azerbaijani military buildup along the border with Armenia and around Artsakh as an indication of Baku's continued policy of aggression, rejection of its commitments and attempts to resolve conflicts by force.
Stressing that the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh and the aggressive policy of Azerbaijan have a negative impact on the Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations, Khandanyan, at the same time, underscored the need for a bilateral peace deal.
"Armenia is ready to get back to the negotiating table anytime and continue discussing the pending issues,” he added.
